The Pink Dolphins
Saturday – 03 May 2008
I guess my family had really wanted to go see the dolphins for quite sometime. But they don’t normally have boat rides on Saturdays. They usually have them on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and that’s it. This week was different because the Olympic torch came to Hong Kong on Friday and they decided to cancel their trips on Friday and move them to Saturday to avoid traffic and what not. So we got to go Saturday morning to see the dolphins.
It was a lot of fun. We saw lots of dolphins. Or maybe just a few dolphins many times. Either way it was really cool. Yes, you read the title right. They were PINK dolphins. Okay, actually they are white dolphins. They’re white because the water they live in – the water around Hong Kong – is very dark and they get very little sunlight. Just like people, those dolphins without sunlight are white. They are white but they turn pink when they exercise. So when they come to the surface for more air they are pink. When they go back down below the surface they are white again. It was very interesting. And it was amazing to see!
